Just seen an inexpensive ball joint press on eBay and was wondering wether A .they were any good and B. they would be ok to press in my wheel studs ?

Has anyone had any experience of them, I watched a Youtube video and it looked impressive.

Got a link to the specific one?

My thinking was by the time I pay someone to press in my wheel studs I could have almost bought one of these?

Do a forum search for "changing wheel studs" and also read the disclaimer on the Brickwerks shop page about fitting them.
We use a gear press and they take some shoving in, believe me.
You wont fit wheel studs with a toy like that.

Yeah, have to agree with Silverbullet on that - fitted quite a few studs to hubs in the past, but with a hydraulic press. I tried using screw-thread type shortcuts in the past, and it was never a viable option - there's just too much friction in there, and too much twist in a mechanism like that. If you've prepped everything properly for the person pressing the studs in for you, it'll be a quick, easy job, so it shouldn't cost too much. I bought my own hydraulic press (about £120, IIRC), and I've used it a lot for wheel bearings and gearbox rebuilds, but the downside is that it's a big item to have hanging around all the time.

To do the job right, you need three heavy wall steel tubes of equal length on which to stand the hub.
That way, the studs go in square and true, no tears before bedtime.
Old wbx gudgeon pins are ideal but they can hang on the last bit of serration that pokes through the hub flange.
A tap with a mallet and they are free.
Takes minutes, a fiver for the garage tea fund and a box of hobnobs.
