Exhaust for 82 2.0l Ai coold

Hi all,
My tailpipe fell off a couple of weeks ago, got a replacement but there's little chance of getting the old bracket off, so guessing I'm gonna have to replace the silencer as well, as you can't drill out the holes and use bolts. Have looked at the wiki page for exhaust and it only seems to mention water cooled. Looking at the diagram the early one looks the same, connecting into pipes rather than heat exchangers. Am I correct in thinking that? Would like to get a stainless steel one that fits straight on if poss. Unless any one has any tips about saving the existing silencer, seems a shame to lose it just because of the tailpipe. I guess the other alternative is to leave it with no tailpipe for a while, as it doesn't do much does it.

Thanks in advance for all advice.

Cheers
Pete

Title should read 2.0l Air-cooled obviously!

My tail-pipe is welded on at the flange.

Early water cooled used the same silencer as the 2.0ltr air cooled but the tailpipe is specific to the engine.

Thanks for clarifying Big Herb, I got the specific tail pipe from JK, so that should be right for the engine. Thought about welding it after I posted initially, so might take to local garage and get them to do that, at least I get money's worth from the silencer and I'll replace the lot next time it goes. :D

Cheers.

Last little question, am I really doing any harm running it without a tailpipe?

Not mechanically, no.

Depends on how much you value your paintwork on the rear valence.
