changing final drive

So I am getting quotes to change the final drive and our favourite gearbox guy is chocca block for the next 4 months. Anyway I had a 1.6td 1990 t25 and the head gasket blew so have transplanted a 1.9 afn engine in. Runs really nicely but when you get near 70 it starts shouting at you. Will probably change my standard wheels to 15/16 inch alloys with a lower profile tyre.

Anyway so far I have had quotes from £450 labour only to £2000+ for a reconditioned gearbox. I am based in SE london Kent. Anyone recommend any garages that could advise and change the final drive?

The cheaper quote I got I would have to supply the parts and I really don't know which part is needed.

Many thanks

I think Aidan will agree with me here but shifting to bigger, taller tyres makes a big difference and a whole lot cheaper than changing a cog.

Thanks I think I will have to change the cog anyway as Aidan said that my engine probably doesn't like running over 3000rpm at 70

This guy was recomended to me by a couple of different resto firms. He did a first class job on mine.

Thanks for the comments guys. Cog box were only interested if I did a full gearbox recondition. 2k+ I think I'm just going to wait for Aidan
