Hi All,

I'm going to be purchasing a new set of front brake calipers so wanted some advice.
My current set are the original Girling sliding calipers that came on the van.

The options I've been looking at are:

Original part from VW Heritage, £101.95 each. Looks like I'd have to purchase bleed screw / nipple separately.

Got my last set from brickwerks, came with bleed nipples, but if you don't want the hassle of having to send your old ones in return then places like eurocarparts do them

Eurocarparts really annoys me as it doesn't reference my import and UK registration... any ideas how I get around during this?

use someone else's registration!

on every engine conversion I have done I have kept a note of the donor cars reg in the glovebox so if I need service parts I have the correct reg.

Opposite way round for me. ECP no prob but GSF doesn't have my reg in their database. I get sick of having to go through the dropdown choices.

I dont ever give them a reg. Go in with a model and year, do your homework & know your onions/calipers etc.
Take a photo of what you have got and know actually fits, to compare with whats offered over the counter.
Never assume that the monkey in the shop knows anything.

Uneven wear in the pads isn't affected by external rust but I'm sure you know that.
Usual suspects are the pistons seizing or not free to move in the bores.
This happened to me.
I removed the pistons and thoroughly cleaned the crap out, took out the old seals and hospital cleaned the recess.
Reassembled it all and was shocked at the improved bakes, the wear on the pads is now even.
This cost me nothing.
The rubbish in the caliper bore was unbelievable.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic and will get under the seal, oxidising all it can.
This lifts the seal out of the recess and constricts the piston.

The money I saved was put toward suspension bush replacement, which improved things again.
