My ideal size and style would be that of the sort used by the bigger caravan fraternity

Thing is I have never seen one of these with a "back" in it which would allow it to be tethered to the camper gutter and used like a freestanding drive away set up.

Any thoughts as I would like to get all this lot under cover before it rains next time, as it always does

Same as this one - you can almost fit the van in it. It has a bedroom big enough for two and plenty of space.

Use ours when staying more than a couple of nights or if theres a few of us. Easy and quick to put up myself and only need help if the weather is gusty. On longer hols it is handy to use as base to store kit when going out on day trips and with a party of us handy to retreat to in case of showers or hot sun. There is a fully removable front panel with two windows and the side door as seen above has windows too so nice and bright inside. The side facing the van can zip shut when you are away but rolls back for when the van attached.

Picture below was in a squashed camp side next to the Med but if in open fields we have the front facing the best view.

Bargains can be had in the off season - mine was £155 a few years back as advertised for left hand drive vehicles only. Have no idea why as would work on either side. Came from World of Camping who according to the members section here offer a 10% discount. That price included an inner sleeping tent and a groundsheet which usually come as optional extras. Have used it to sleep in a couple of times as a tent when could not use van due to broken engine.

Thanks for your input people but alas the reason I need to move away from these standard sort of awning widths is to enable me, when putting on displays at vintage shows (as shown above), to have it all under cover of a double width awning

Also forgot to say it would be best if the front had plenty of window to allow people to see inside easily

I do get on well with the traditional style of "frame" awning and wondered if they might be available in a drive-away style but with a wider frontage?

A few years back I did find an unsold completed listing for a bigger than average "driveaway" but unfortunately he had decided not to sell it

Might it be worth finding a good size frame tent, probably cheap second hand, then asking a tent repair place to add a tunnel to connect to the van? Might be possible and you would have the perfect awning for your needs.

Andy . Just read your post why not just buy the sides for your fiamma and wind it out fully and then attatch the drive away to the front . I do the same with my roll out . Makes sense to me as you can pick up the fiamma sides cheap or talk to an awning cover company . Try coverall in devon they can make sides to suit budget and use other companies could do the same and may be closer

For the optimum solution I was thinking of a WIDER set up

Mind you, as said, might be worth looking into the potential of Fiamma sides etc.
