Temperature gauge.....warning indicator, MY90

Hi,
My MY90 camper has developed an intermittent fault with the temperature gauge warning flashing light.
It seems related to the ignition switch as sometimes the light may go out on a second attempt and not to return. Other times the flashing light may continue to flash for the entirety of the trip.
My garage says it requires a new dash as the sensor is driven via the temp gauge and the reservoir in the engine.
The expansion tank is always filled to the max and I do not loose any water.
Looked in Wiki with no luck.
Any ideas will be appreciated.
Regards
Graham

Once the warning light starts flashing it will keep doing it until reset by turning the ignition off. Try removing the coolant level warning "relay", labelled 42 or 43. If it still does it then fault is probably in the dash somewhere (possibly a bad earth). If it stops the problem then most likely a bad connection at the coolant level sensor in the coolant tank, but I had a similar problem due to a poor contact inside the "relay". You can fit either a 42 or a 43, 42 is the later type but both work.

First pull it out and see if the fault goes away.
Don't know if they are available new from VW, here is a Chinese one:
