...so my second issue today and filling up this section - after refitting all interior units and gas supply inside, I turned on the main gas valve on the underslung tank, only to find that somebody had cross threaded the regulator to on/off valve thread and it was leaking a lot.

I removed to work out which one to buy (is gunzls the only place?) - not sure what the difference is between these -

anyway, i finally managed to thread the regulator back on properly in the end, only to find that the main valve was leaking behind rotating wheel, so i definitely need to replace that. Just wondering if its fairly simple, looks it, should I just open valve a little and let run off? Or call the experts and leave well alone! Any other guidance appreciated as always

I have this page book marked for if I ever need a gas tank part. Lots more choice but don't ask me which as different year vans have different fittings on.

i have replaced that valve in the past. safest way is to connect the tank up to a gas bbq, light the bbq and wait for the gas to run out. Then unscrew old and fit new. (you will still get gas out..)

I went to Peter Gunzl for a replacement when I stripped and reconditioned my tank. Simple job but leak testt all your threads with detergent solution and use gas thread price tape. To empty the tank I attached a length of tube extending well out the garage into the garden and left it gently venting overnight which in retrospect was a bit daft. Next day if was like every slug in a 10 mile radius had made its way into the garden to the end of the hose. They must be attracted to the gas, but literally hundreds and hundreds of them. It was really messy when I circled them with salt.

Don't know if it will help you but I had a similar prob with an annoying leak where my regulator connected to my internal 'cooking' tank. Fix? a 15p rubber tap washer dropped in there before nipping it up. Had no trouble since.

hello, im struggling a bit here - after fitting the new valve ( I was recommended to go with a nut type fitting) Im struggling to make a proper joint between regulator end and valve. They don’t match, originally there was a thin washer on the end of the valve thread which almost worked but it sheared off when tight as shown.

Can anybody advise of the best way forward, we’re getting a bit urgent as we’re away for three weeks holiday in France soon.

the valve you've replaced, does it have the same connection as the old one?

Thanks for your reply, No wishing I did, but It was recommended that I get rid of the adaptor and go straight from valve to regulator without the screw on bit (hopefully clear in old pictures)

yeah, can't really say anything else other than you should have got the same one, they do sell it.

probably much easier to buy the correct one and sell on the one you have fitted now, or buy the correct regulator for that shut off valve.

but it looks the same to me.....

The new valve you fitted, i had on my old westy tank (i fitted a new one like you) had this regulator (well its looked exactly the same as this one)
