VW fitted two incase one fails.
Unfortunately they forgot to fit an indicator to tell you if one had failed. So it's not until both fail that you notice.

Not a believer in Just Krappers quality, this switch from brickwerks is cheaper and in my view better quality from Meyle
If you shorted the wire and the lights came on then it could be only 1 thing
1, the switch is not working
You can test the switch by putting something thin (not sharp) into the hole at the bottom and push gently, the switch should make a circuit
here's how it works
pictured here is one reason for failure

Does fluid come out when you remove the switches? - wondering if crud is preventing pressure from reaching switches.

it didn't pour out just a trickle but then i was as quick as i could with the swap over of switches

they are pressure switches, do the brake lights work if you start the engine and stand on the brakes a bit harder ??

Hi
About the best £18.99 I have spent on tools.
http://www.sealey.co.uk/PLPageBuilder.a ... uctid=7229" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"Sealey PPX Automotive 6 V 12 Volt Probe Car Motorbike Auto Circuit Relay Tester"
Im an idiot when it comes to electrickery but this makes it easy
Look at the 3 minute sealey web site video tutorial and then amazon/e bay it for there best price.
£39.99 from Sealey but available on e bay / amazon for under £20
You will thank me if you get one
