Good morning everyone, sorry can't sleep , over 50s aches and pains......Anyway
I have a 2.1 DJ fuel injection and was wondering what petrol I should ideally be putting in. I mix it between standard unleaded and the super unleaded. Any thoughts ?

Check the ignition timing. Conventional wisdom says run it on super 97+ RON and full 10 degrees advance, otherwise its 5 degrees BTDC for 95 RON.
Backing off the timing does dent the performance a bit.

Thanks Silverbullet, will have to borrow a timing light to check. Will it matter or alter the way she drives if I put either in ?.

If its set at 5 degrees you are safe no matter what, just wasting money on full strength jungle juice.
If its set at 10 degrees and you drive it hard or heavily loaded, you run the risk of a burnt exhaust valve, overheating, melted piston etc.

I don't do mega miles so always use super/premium/Carlos fandango.

Yesterday, for the first time in years, had to use regular as was at a hillbilly station in the back end of Arseville. Very noticeable change in performance.

I know the internet is ace but read quite a lot where the consensus appears to be that like for like driving gives you more MPG so near as damn it negates higher cost. Dont know if this is true or just Facebook truth.

I never put less than 97 ron in and always from bp stations, the odd tenner's worth of supermarket super to get me by

Elvis if you have an engine with knock sensors and self learning then it will adapt to the fuel. Fill the tank with maids' wee and it will do its best. Give it some Super Plus when on the continentt and its smiles for miles.

I always try to use Tesco Momentum 99 as its the highest octane rating you can generally buy, the others either have 97 or don't state its RON rating.

My van seems to start better and runner better with standard unleaded but I am worried that I am doing damage by using it. As I don't know what my timing is set at am I best alternating what I put in.

Best to check the timing!

I am the same as Mark a few posts up, only ever use 'Branded' if thats the word and never supermarket. Maybe the horror stories are unfounded, as previous, lots of $hite on net and dont know enough about the petro-chemical industry to make an informed decision but never had problems with big brands.

Read lots about the 'blends' of chemicals etc added and tinternet has it that supermarket stuff has lowest levels of certain chemicals to keep it legal and useable but makes it cheap to blend/sell/profit.......

Nearest BP to me pulls your kidneys out of your hoop. Esso is 100m from sainsburys so price matches them.
