Took the top cupboard out today and found a few rust spots. How do I tackle this at home.

Outer skin must have been holed with rust for many years for that to happen I would have thought.

Hi Mick. Here are some pics from outside. The gutters are not brilliant and have been filled with loads of sealant over the years.

thats why i wanted the pickies.....if you want it doing right then sorry but hitop off, and you will find a lot more as well ,well less mmetal but more holes.......
whats it like on the rest of the roof gutter areas , take a few more picks all round as this will help sort of plan the worthwhile way

Ouch - high top alert. Prepare for real horrors when you remove it and as said, its got to come off. The rust you're seeing is the effects rather than the actual cause which will be under that high top.
