Hey all,

Starting issues have been narrowed down to (i think) damaged cable between starter solenoid and ignition (small voltage showing). What size cable and where does it teminate at the front end? fuse box or ignition switch?

Any clues prior to getting her up on stands appreciated.

6mm2 red/black runs from starter to fusebox then from fusebox runs 4mm2 to ignition switch.
Usual culprits are ignition switch failure, corrosion of the spade terminal at starter or corrosion of the last few inches of cable at starter end.

I'd start by checking ignition switch output
next chopping off the spade and keep cutting the wire back until you find good copper, then join on to that.

Also be careful where you are connecting your earth when measuring.

Similar to Itchy's advice: I found that the trigger wire at the starter motor end had corrode significantly. I removed about 20 cm of wire and then had to join a new piece on. It made a significant difference. Never tested the ignition switch but then I replaced mine 5 yrs ago.

Dito....rotten (copper multi strands go black) solenoid feed wire. As said, cut a couple of centimetres off at a time until you get to good cable then join to it with the same gauge wire, noting that connections need to be 100% (I like to solder rather than crimp but that wire will draw alot of heat.

I had black copper strands here too. I exposed enough of the copper to reterminate and rubbed some plumbers flux on the black cable and left it overnight. Following day I washed it off with some vinegar to reveal nice clean and shiny copper.
