california or trooper

with our house move almost finalised I'm having to face the reality of either pulling the roof offof my high top and fitting a replacement one like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-T25-Westfa ... 1ny.....or" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; selling to fund the purchase of either a trooper or California.....it took me ages to find my van, no seam rust, needs four of the windows out for four tiny spots of rust and a bit of work behind the front bumper. while ive had it its been garaged and these have not got any worse. without getting it in the garage I will have no room for it so something has to give.

ive tried to get a trooper roof and if anyone has one laying around doing nowt I have a good home for it. I have never been in trooper but imagine its like mine without the storage and have only taken the pi$$ out of California owners lack of having a decent breakfast or snack option.
what I would like to know from owners is how they get along with them and whether anyone thinks the roof above is a good idea or I am I just ruining a good van.

cheers mark

Personally wouldn't mess with a van that sounds as good as yours, I would sell and buy a good pop top. I'm biased as have a California and would recommend it to anyone. :ok

Can't see you getting on with the austerity of a german conversion mate.
Autosleeper poptops are considered the best looking ones ever fitted to a T25

The Trooper roof is IMO...the best pop-top on the market. Troopers also have a fantastic amount of storage (quite a bit more than a Westy) but you can't get away from the original 80's velour chintz.

westie 1 trooper 2

you just cant get away from it looking like your nan's front room, and I find that comforting while sat in the middle of field......but for some reason people don't move them on, I missed out on 2 when I was looking last time a stunner in Newquay and freshly painted one in the dorset area. the search is under way....the last time I started looking I was convinced I wanted Aircooled devon

When I started getting interest in buying a T25 two years ago I was totally open minded to everything, looked at loads but preferred the Trooper, eventually got one and we are so very happy with it. Fun all the way,and l think the best looking too. :ok

have you looked at holdsworth pop tops, very similar to troopers.

But......its all about the 'best van' that your money will buy at the time of looking, not necessarily the model.

I've had many troopers and holdsworths and would choose holdsworths every time, im talking about the whole van. The interior in holdsworths are not eye candy, the roof lining looks grubby, I change every roof lining now, as I just cant live with them. But the bodywork is always much better, autosleepers have by far the worst bodies, don't really know why, but they just they have.

mine has a couple of 5p sized bubbles on the side windows and the same on the front and back windscreens, its never been welded or painted, the earlier ones seem to suffer from the fridge panel and water inlet panel being rusty...dbz if you come across a mint trooper or holdsworth still wearing its factory paint I would be interested in having a butchers
