Leisure battery OK?

Just bought a new 100ah leisure battery for my Autosleeper, so that I can fire up the propex on cold nights. I gave the battery a really good charge before fitting and it was reading 13.7v when I put it on. The propex fired up OK and ran for 5 minutes until it reached the desired temperature, then it cut out as it should. But, when the temperature in the van dropped it couldn't fire up again. I disconnected the leisure battery and took a reading - only 12.5v. Is my new battery OK? Or is there something else I need to think about? I'm useless with electrics! Thanks in advance.

Propex heaters are very fussy about the gauge of wire between it and the battery - thats one thing. Too thin and it won't run long. Needs to be chunky stuff all the way. The other is voltage below 12v at which point they will shut down. The propex only draws 2amps when actually running. Battery doesn't sound duff and bear in mind it'll drop from its initial charge voltage to about 12.5-12.7 when its had a load on it. Did you adjust thermostat? What model of Propex?

Mmmm, thanks Kid, you might be on to something - the last owner had an oversize battery and it didn't fit under the seat so he extended the wiring. My new battery fits under the seat (just) so I might undo his handy work to see if that helps. Will get back to you tmrw.

Some time ago GhostUK and I put together some useful tips for earlier Propex models, some of which applies to all models although anything beyond that isn't DIY:

Yeah had a read through that thanks. Did you know that the link shown under 'Propex will not fire up' doesn't work?
I'm off now to have another play with it.
