Filler neck / petrol smell.

So I think I did something wrong reassembling the filler neck when I put the tank back together.
I filled with petrol today and there was a definite petrol smell when I got home, I noticed this last time but i thought I put the cap on badly.
The filler neck is possibly upside down, and doesn't seem to have a great seal with the tank. But this seemed to be the only way to get it in?

Could someone be so kind as to take a picture of there filler neck so I can see how it should be?

Like this.
There is adjustment for rotation in the filler neck holes.
Also yours is on the changeover year from the large metal filler to the smaller plastic filler. Has your tank the smaller 48mm hole? otherwise you need the adapter seal if a later plastic filler is used with the older tank.

No its a new tank so should be 48mm hole. The filler doesn't appear to have a great seal, its a interference fit, but you can slide I about fairly easily. It looks to be the right rotation to me, breather? Tube at the vertically downwards from the main filler tube?
