5 speed gearbox.. Wont go into 1,2,3rd or reverse????

5 speed gearbox.. Wont go into 1,2,3rd or reverse???? 1.9 Petrol.. 4th an 5th work fine... Is this a linkage problem (please say yes!!!) Or.. Is Gearbox u/s??? Thanks

What's changed ? OR did you buy it like this ? Can you get them with the engine off ? Can you get them by taking the linkage off the activating lever and 'doing it by hand' :oops:

Had it for years.. no probs before.. Wont go into those gears with the engine off.. But will into 4th an 5th...

Havent tried it with the linkage off.. Don't know how to do that really???

Take the rear bracket off ... 2 M8 nut and bolts. NB ... take a photo beforehand so you can see which side the bracket is of the gearbox casting (you'll understand when you have a look). The linkage then drops away from the arm and you should be able to select the gears by hand.

Have you changed the gearbox oil ? What does the magnet tell you ?

You may well find theres a problem with that bracket or the ball & socket below it when you come to inspect it.

Yes, that OR the alignment side to side on the splines seeing as you can get the 2 gears furthest to the right (on the stick)

PS If you've never done it it would be a good idea to change the gear oil (4-5 litres of SX75-90 GL4) ... the magnet of doom often tells the true tale of how a gearbox really is. :twisted:
