What is considered the minimum amount of wheel stud thread engagement before extended studs are required?
I have read the thread length should equal the diameter, ie M14 should have 14mm of thread engagement. Somewhere else i read 1.5 times the diameter.

there is some equation you can do, but from what i have read recently for our stud size the equation works out at 7 full turns of the nut on the thread. Personally though, i'd want the stud to at least be level with the end of the nut.

I've only got my original closed end nuts that were on my 15 inch steels. With my CLK wheels , et33, I have had to put a 2mm spacer to get clearance between Brembo caliper and back face of wheel. This leaves me with 12mm of stud . I don't want to have to fit extended studs as I will ruin my new wheel bearings.
