Just wondering how others have bridge this gap and trimmed around the window?




I plan on using stretch carpet stuff in general.

Stretch carpet, glued down and the edge tucked under the seal. The only places I haven't found a solution for are the tailgate and sliding door due to the outside edges.

Have you a picture? I'm not sure I know what you mean!

I'm working away from home so won't have a picture before the weekend. But simply, the carpet is glued to the metal work (it stretches to follow the contours) and when you cut it off you leave enough to tuck under the rubber seals around the windows. You lift the seal with a finger or blunt screwdriver and tuck it under - hey presto, neat edges.

On the slider and tailgate, you can do the same at the window, but the edges that are on the outer edge of the doors have no natural edge or seal to tuck under. You wouldn't want them getting caught in the actual door seal as they might wick water in and make you carpet filthy and stinky.

E D I T.... sorry I have just looked again, you have an open double skinned edge - was it a panel van tht was cut for windows? Mine is joined together giving a single lip. You could tuck the carpet over the edge and into the gap, then do the outer skin as above? You can also get push on rubber edging for finishing cut edges etc, this could tidy it all up. You could use a generic door seal as they come in various sizes, this would slip over the front lip and the rubber seal bit would bridge the gap and press against the outer panel. Done right it could look ok, giving thr impression of a thicker black edge on the window. It wiuld stop crud and moisture getting between the panels..

WHS ^^^ at the end. I ran the lining carpet up to the edge then cut flush. To bridge the gap I got something similar to this stuff:

Lots of different dimensions avaialable and you need to ensure the clip bit is wide enough to allow for the thickness of the metal lip and the carpet and the de-formable section needs to be large enough to bridge the gap. I found that I needed a slightly larger section to bridge the gap between the O/S GRP internal panel (opposite sliding door) and the window seal

This picture was taken mid re-furb - bit dark but you should get the gist of it. You should see two lips round the window, one is the actual window rubber, then the internal bit is the knock on seal.

Thanks for the responses. It was bridging it that I wasn't sure. The frustrating bit, I didn't remove that section of interior so never looked as it was done. It's a Devon conversion i believe so likely cut from a panel van. I think what Sam has done looks like a good solution. thanks!

Smosh, I used pipe insulation ( the grey foam stuff used to lag copper pipe) to bridge the gap in mine.you just need to trim it a bit on the corners..worked well for me

I may try this. I have ordered a number of rolls for the van anyhow!
