Quite simply I have a springing leak from the "warm start"/choke area of the Diesel Pump in my '87 T3 Multivan. Its in an area I don't think my hand can squeeze to get access to it, so can I 'quickly' disconnect the pump?

I have bought a new seal kit, but have none of the special locking tools for the cam & pump (as seen in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LohoSp566wA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; YouTube video). Was hoping not to disconnect all the belts, or is the pump directly connected to the cog set-up?

Sorry for all the questions , I'm sitting on the Fence at the moment to do it myself or get an expert in.

You can change it without removing the pump - very fiddly but can be done. Put rag underneath it to catch the nut when it drops off otherwise you will lose it under the bracket. It is easy enough to remove the o-ring and replace - the difficulty is getting the lever back on the shaft and getting the nut started on the the thread as the shaft moves back into the pump. The lever is keyed with a flat to position it. Cable is best removed and withdrawn into the outer.
I have done it with my large arthritic hands - you just use tools with no need to get your hand in there (although it would be far easier if you could do so!). Improvised tools like a piece of plasticine on a blade will get the nut back into the area of the shaft to get it started.

Thanks. You did well, as I didn't think my non-big hands would get in there. I was considering removing the closest injector for work space, and remove the glow plug bar whilst at it.

Will have a go as I really don't want to mess with the belt tensions until ready to replace them all. Don't want to upset the big apple cart (a.k.a. the kids and dog holiday machine).

It's worth finding a company that would come out to you if it all goes wrong! But;
Buy a magnet on a telescopic wand so you can retrieve dropped nuts etc.
Buy new heat shields for any injectors that you remove( don't remove the injector if you can manage with it in place)

Cheers Dave , I have a local mechanic that I could get out I guess (though he's technically a planxista (body work repair), and over charges. As a last resort OK).

I initially had a leak at the distributor end of the pump. I sorted that out, then when rebuilt discovered the warm start leak. Was like a conspiracy of the Diesel pump wanting attention.

Will get annoyed, but will leave the injector alone then, will take its hose off that leads to the distributor as that had been off on my prior witch hunt.
