Hi

I have been checking the gearbox before refitting. I planned to replace the seals for the driveshafts and input shaft, but noticed that the joint between the bellhousing and gearbox shows that a previous owner had used some sort of sealant. Sorry I can't upload a picture. Is this usual. I know there should be a gasket, but I can't see any sign of this. Do you think I should separate the box from the bellhousing to check? Are the replacement sets available and are they any good>

The van is a T25 1.6 diesel turbo. The gearbox is a five speed. There was a seep from it, but because there was so much accumulated dirt I couldn't tell if it was from that joint or the drive flanges. The bellhousing itself was dry as a bone.

it's simple enough to remove the bellhousing, you can check the state of the oil thrower, inspect the crown and pinion while you are there, obviously see the magnet and change the oil on resealing; brickie sells the gasket, I think they were awaiting stock last week
