Big mirror fitting

Finally, the sun is shining at the time has arrived to have a go at a few jobs on the exterior - I said a few, not all of them!!
Any ways, I've purchased some electric big mirrors and have just a few questions; firstly, is the bottom screw held in place using a rivnut? If so, grand as I have a selection of stainless ones. But, a rivnut sits proud of the door skin and it appears as though this will prevent the mirror arm from sitting flush - correct?
Does anyone happen to know the diameter of hole that is required to be drilled to allow the loom to be passed through the door skin and is a grommet fitted to prevent water ingress?
Talking of water ingress, what prevents rain being driven into the door cavity through the 3 fixing holes? The gaskets that I have are a harder plastic than I imagined and don't give me the impression that they will 'compress' beneath the mirror arm, thus, keeping the area beneath them dry.
Looking forward to finally being able to see what's behind me at last. Thanks in advance.
