Eberspacher heater

Hi, don't know if anyone has any knowledge of Eberspacher heaters in T25's? I've got a 1990 Westfalia which has an Eberspacher diesel heater. I bought it last year and used the van throughout the summer but was told when I bought it that when the heater was turned on diesel fumes went into the van, so I've not even tried using it. I want to be able to use the van earlier and later in the season this year so am going to get it looked at. The engine is in the back of the van so am sort of assuming there is a separate rubber exhaust pipe which is for the diesel fumes from the heater which is coming up through the seal between the engine and the back of the van. A complete guess, but there are a couple of rubber pipes which could easily be unfolded from the engine so they poke out the back of the van, which maybe they need to be when the heater is on. Thought I'd ask so that I'm not coming in completely blind if I take it in to be looked at. Also want to understand where the fumes should be coming out as we've got kids and don't want to gas them on a guess. Although apparently, diesel fumes are unlikely to kill you.

Eberspaecher heaters have a corrugated metal exhaust pipe about 25mm diameter, plus a little silencer. Look under the van and you will spot it.
Best take a pic of these "hoses that could be unfolded out the back" and someone will be along to help identify them.
The Eber exhaust is in no way connected to the vehicle engine exhaust though!

Hi there,

I thought that i would continue to use this thread as my question is about the Eberspacher heater in my van.
I have just bought my first VW camper. :D :D It's a 1989 T25 and has been fitted with an Eberspacher heater. The previous owner has never used it and I was wanting to take a look at it so I can hopefully service it and get it working again but stupidly I am having trouble finding it. The picture shows what I think is something that belongs to the heater but am not sure, have followed the wires coming off the back of it but only wind up at the gas bottle in the back cupboard. I have had a look underneath but as I am not sure what I'm looking for found it difficult to spot anything.
Not sure if I'm just being stupidly blind or if anyone will be able to tell me where it is likely to be located?
Kind regards,
Lyndsay

And that looks like a gas pipe, follow the pipe to its two ends and send pics of what you find, might have a gas heater in

Managed to find it, was hidden away behind a wooden cover that had been screwed in.
Thank you though.
Does anyone know what problems can arise when removing it?
Cheers,
Lyndsay
