Hi,

Does anyone have experience of servicing a power steering pump (petrol engine)? If so was it straightforward and/or successful? Mine's starting to sound like someone's squeezing Chewbacca's nuts in a vice when turning tight corners. A re-manufactured unit is £300 but I notice I can get VW power steering pump servicing kit, which includes a bearing for around £13.99. Can it really be that simple? I wonder if this will cure the noise or are there other worn moving parts in the pump? Already flushed and replaced the fluid with little effect.

Is the belt tight or does it need replacing?
I have fitted new bearings and seal to a Hoborn-Eaton, that was easy. Dont see why a ZF should be any worse.

change of fluid and filter may be all that is required - filter is in the bottom of the reservoir, ceramic type white when new
doing the seals is easy enough, just make sure you have a tray underneath when taking it apart as the vanes in the impeller sit loose and can all fall out if you are not careful but if it isn't leaking then probably don't need doing, though possible there's a split in internal seal
