Making a Subaru Exhaust: Help needed

Hi peeps

Well finally started my Subaru conversion today and it runs...sounds horrendous though on just the original Subaru exhaust manifold and no silencer. My plan was to cut the original Subaru manifold at the headers and then fabricate some flexi joints and jetex exhaust parts to the silencer. Can you use the original wasserboxer silencer or is it best to go for the MR2 silencer as someone previously suggested? Also, the Subaru exhaust manifold sits quite low in relation to the sump. Would you fabricate I so it sits higher up towards the engine or leave as is? This is now where I am lacking in imagination. How do you people that have done this conversion mount the silencer? I no longer have the original engine beam just the rjes one so I am a bit stuck on how to do this? Do I need to buy an original engine beam to help with a mounting point? Advice and pictures would be greatly appreciated.

My mate fabricated a exhaust using the std rear VW box and the Subaru manifolds. I think he just shortened the manifolds and welded it onto the VW box. Don't know how he exactly made it. I've had one built out of stainless by a specialist exhaust fabricator which does sound nice and quiet with a nice burble but really is a piece of rusted, shoddy "pooh" with herendious pidgeon "pooh" welding and two of the mounts have broke at the welds. But anyway mine is made with 3 silencers cost me about £750 and my mate mate one for what ever the gas and wire cost and the sound exactly the same. I'll take a photo of mine tomorrow if it would help?

Hi Bradders

Yes a picture would be great. How did you mount it? Interesting about your mate using the old silencer and Subaru manifold. Wonder how he mounted it? May have a go at that myself.

Go onto google images and type in subaru T25 exhaust . Some good pics for reference . MR 2 silencer box is around £35

I couldn't get a decent enough photo to show the exhaust. But it is mounted onto the engine itself. not sure how my mate mounted the one. Think there is many easy ways to build one for not a lot of money.

Send me your email address I haves couple of pics, I bought a second hand Subaru header with turbo up pipe for 50 squid cut the up pipe off shorten the bits that bolt to the head best if you find a mate who can weld stainless, bought some 2inch bends from a local firm that makes exhausts designed the silencer based on the original and made it out of some scrap stainless 6inch tubing again bought some more bits ie perforated pipe for the inside lots of head scratching but it works and sound bang on just right more luck than judgement though send me your email or mob number I have a few pics the mounting was poss the easiest made brackets that mount off air on and power steering areas

Hi, I made my exhaust with bits bought from flea bay and headers from RJES. I hung the box off the back chassis/Users/russellsmith/Dropbox/camper pics/20141214_191648.jpg/Users/russellsmith/Dropbox/camper pics/20141215_203429.jpg/Users/russellsmith/Dropbox/camper pics/20141217_203603.jpg
