Sorry if this is in the wrong section or been posted before, but can anyone tell me what we will need to do to change our 14 steelie wheels to some brm's or empi's please????
Van is 1980 t25 Aircooled dont know if you need to know anything else???

As long as you get the wheels with the right ET/ PCD (112 x5) and the correct wheel bolts and nuts, everything should bolt straight on without a problem.

so they don't need spacers or anything? I like the brms too. can't justify the expense at the mo though, but would like to see pics when/if you fit them.

Just been told by Mr Baxter that Brm's or Empi's are no good for t25 campers

what a shame! probably explains why i haven't seen any of a T25 though!

I've got BRM's on my van and have had them for over a year with no problems. I got extended wheel nuts from brickwerks and that was all i needed.

I believe the delightful Dr Alice Roberts has 5 spoke Empi's on her Syncro

The ET measurement on ones I have seen has been ET 12! not 30 to 39 for the van, this will leave you with a van that wants to go in a straight line and be heavy around the corners.
The low ET will place the centre line of the wheel further away from the van, giving the effect of more leverage on the stub axle, and will put more load on the front wheel bearings (and the rear for that matter) so you may find that it starts to eat bearings.
The ET cannot be corrected by shims as adding shims will reduce the ET.
MWS won't supply you with a load rating for the wheel, dubious.
Yes they will go on, yes they will work but they won't be right.
I know plenty of people have them on, probably with no adverse effects but... well....
I am open to being proved wrong but from the ones I have seen I would not be happy with them on my van but thats just me.

I've had empi 5's on for three years now - now problems so far.

Its not easy getting alloys is it!

I went to MWS and said "i want some alloys that will bolt sraight on without messing around" and they showed me quite a few sets and i choose the empi's.

They arent original empi's - MWS own brand.....

Will let you know if i start eating bearings - i hope not!

It's a lot easier than you think and using alloys that can cope with the weight of a Wedge....unlike MWSh*te wheels

As for alloys that bolt straight on....none really unless your van was supplied as standard by VW with alloys...otherwise longer rear studs and front bolts are required to fit them 'safely' plus spacers as well if required.
