Red flashing light!

Hi,

I know this topic has been done to death, but I've got a constant flashing red light within the oil temp gauge. I assume it indicates a fault within the oil system, only started recently.

It comes on immediately, there is no audible buzzing sound (it's just the flashing light), and it stays on. It's in the garage at the moment having some welding done so can't check anything just yet, but keen to have a plan of action as soon as it back.

Point to note; I have just replaced the dash display (complete unit), the fault was apparent before and after. I also have a water/coolant leak I'm trying to track down but haven't had chance to get underneath yet. I noticed the leak around the same time the flashing light started, may just be a coincidence!

Any guidance would be great.

Thanks.

The temp gauge with flashing light is water/coolant temp, not oil temp, flashing red light is low coolant level warning so could well be connected to leak!
Could also be due to a bad electrical contact, between the gauge and the level sensor, but first, when the engine is cold, check the coolant level in the header tank (tank with blue pressure cap) in the engine compartment, it should be full to the brim. If all ok there, remove warning circuit "relay" marked 42 or 43, if fault disappears then bad contact beween relay and sensor, faulty sensor, or faulty relay.

oil light flashing..
If it is the oil light that's flashing, Is the oil level OK?, then look at the oil pressure switch, has the wire come off, is the connection good?
If the switch is shagged you need a new one

If it still flashes then you need a wet gauge to see what pressure your oil is at..,
