hi all. just got our 1st water cooled t25, a 2lt on an "f" plate, 1988 +/-.
my questions are, is it normal for the temp needle to not move? ours stays way down low, if it moves at all, secondly on the temp gauge there is a flashing red light, ive noticed when i turn ignition on it flashes and if i start the motor straight away it keeps flashing, but if i turn on and wait awhile before starting it doesnt flash, whats all that about :) cheers pete

hi pete! welcome to the club! the flashing light is a self test to make sure that it is working! if it comes on and flashes whilst in normal use then you have a low coolant level! and the temp needle should be hovering over the red light! so either you haven't given it time to warmp up or the temp sender is bust!

thanks for that dave. the flashinglight seems a little inconsistant, like i said if i turn on ignition and fire up the motor in one go it stays flashing, but if i turn if off again and then turn on ignition and wait for a minute before firing up the motor, it goes out. weird these water-cooled i'm thinking i should have stayed air-cooled  :D

Hi Pete--the flashing light works from the sensor screwed into the top of the coolant tank--with engine lid off find it at rear left its black plastic with wire plugged in these go faulty so you could replace yours---the temperature gauge needle should run just to the right of the red light--ie quite high but thats where its meant to be---your thermostat may be faulty or non existant--its in the black plastic housing at front left of engine compartment--its good to get a Haynes manual for watercooled T25 from Halfords even if you dont do your own repairs it shows you around the mechanical bits

Thanks guys, think I'll invest in a manual as we intend to keep this for a long time :D My only other problem, well more a dilema really, is that I've also got a 1600 VW Trike, I've built myself, and just dont have enough time to really enjoy them both :( as they are both best enjoyed in warmer weather. Oh well I suppose I'll just have to manage  :D
Take care
