Another start issue

Hi there I have a Vw Caravelle 2.1l petrol 1988 and wondering if this could be a tip for others with starting issues and prehaps someone couldhelp diagnose this problem for me..?

I have had a start issue since purchasing the van 5 years ago with it occasionally cranking but not starting.
Sods law that each time I have taken it to my mechanic it has behave perfectly grrr..

I ( they ) have changed plugs, leads a new starter motor, dist' cap and battery..

My next step is to maybe change the fuel lines, however I was given a tip on starting and wondering if anyone could help pin point the problem.

Each time it wont start I was told to turn the key a number of times to the point on the ignition before cranking and the click is heard in the rear.....so each time the problem occurs I do this for about 5 mins and the van will eventually start.

Once or twice it has also died on me at major junctions, but will always start after the above proceedure..so Im happy.
(I see the glass as half full :ok )

We did France last year 2000 miles no probs, come back and a week later this intermittent problem reared up again.. :run

Advice would be appreciated please...

a click in the back? Is it running LPG and that is the solenoid click?

never had the 2.1 injection - does that click too??

The injection system and its associated sensors and switches van be a whole heap of fun!

:-)

Not lpg...its the electrical click, I think to do with a small amount of fuel passing through..

.injection system is great when all is dandy..to be fair the van has done well but this does test ones er...resolve.

Ive started a book on what could be the problem, and now on my second page...!!

Thought I would ask here..
