Fuel starvation..?

hi there...wondering if anyone can help me with this one. I have a 2.1 injection van which has just started to develop some sort of fuel issue. Starts over well and ticks over o.k. but when driving the engine keeps dropping in revs and splutters...a bit like when learner drivers ' kangaroo' the accelerator...the van almost cuts out and I have to rev really hard to keep it going. It is pretty much un-driveable as it jerks along. This happens when the engine is cold and warm ....any time really. Have disconnected the idler valve to see if that was playing up but problem is still there. Fuel filter replaced a couple of years ago....regularly serviced. Any thoughts...? Many thanks in advance...

Hi Warge, I probably cannot help you, but just wanted to say I have a 2.1 fuel injected engine and I've had lots of problems with it cutting out, running oddly. The latest challenge was the revs dropping randomly. They would drop randomly whilst I was slowing down or idle. This then happened when I was actually driving, the revs swooping down, the van almost cutting out and finally it would cut out, but it would be a bumpy old ride (it never kangaroo'd though, like you described) I had a fuel leak fixed, after smelling petrol. I took it into my garage a few days back after it still cut out with revs all over the place and (you may have seen my post?), the mechanic took the throttle apart and gave it a good clean, plus the contacts. It *seems* to have done the job. I haven't driven it any length yet, but its driven without hesitation on 2 x 15 minute journeys over the last two day.
I was convinced it was a fuel problem, fuel starvation of some sort...but as yet, it seems good.
I hope the kind folks on here will help you out like they have me.
Good luck
Emma

My dg had exactly the same symptoms due to water getting into petrol tank.
