Can anyone help with this one please ?

Bought myself a new two ring gas cooker from eBay, bought a camping gas blue butane bottle from halfords. The thing doesn't fire up ! There is gas coming through but it just won't light and we're off to The Galloway hills tomorrow..... Help please.

How are you trying to light it?

If you're outside it may be too cold for the butane to work.

I'm in my garage, should I heat the bottle up?

Can you actually smell gas at the burner? Have you purged the hose of air? If you have gas and you have a match it will light.

I checked the gas before I connected it.... Not unless halfrauds have sold me an empty. I might try some paste to pre heat it .

I can smell a little bit , there doesn't seem to be much pressure though. Could be the jet.

Has it got a regulator to suit butane?

Don't halfords only sell empties?

You don't want butane if you are winter camping. Use propane. You are likely to experience lack of gas in cold temperatures with butane.

Yes,one works on a lower pressure and I've forgotten which is which, Google it.

Camping gas bottles are those aerosol type ones, only particular regulators screw onto them. So you can really get the wrong one. The propane/butane thing is a bit of a red herring anyway, either gas will work on either regulator. Maybe not to the specified heat output stamped on the appliance, but it will light and work..

Personally, id take the bottle and cooker indoors. get it to room temp (make take a few hours) then try again
