Eberspacher Problem after fitting new plug

Been having trouble with the Eberspacher in my westy, its a petrol model.

First i fitted a new fuel pump which now works and now i've fitted a new plug. Switched it on and it went for about a second before shutting down.

I heard a little click as it shut down which indicated to me a fuse has gone. I checked the fuses by the steering wheel and they're all OK.

Its lost all power now and wont switch on.

firstly is the plug that you put in it the right one? correct voltage etc! the other thing to check is the thermal cut out usually under a rubber grommet! push it back in and see what happens!

Its getting there.

I'm struggling with this Eber though. Its like 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

How can I tell if i've got the right plug? It looks absolutely identical to the one i replaced it with.

Think its time for a T4.....

has it got a part number on it? if it looks exactly the same chances are it is! how about the thermal cut out?

There is also a fuse on the bottom of the Eber control unit, between all the multiplug wires. Not really noticable until you unclip the unit off it's mounting and look at the bottom. Someone also told me that when you replace the pump, becaust the petrol has drained from the Eber, you have to keep switching it on until it's "spat" enough fuel up the pipe to ignite it, but I don't know if this is correct or not.

Do you mean a fuse on the back of the main eber switch?? I took it off the van tonight but i didnt see any fuses on it??

I'm convinced a fuse has gone but i've no idea why or where....

I have an old B1l eber, not fitted yet, but if it is the same vintage as mine the fuse is a "slow Blow" type (curly job) and is on the silver (if it's clean) control box. This should be very near the eber as its on a shortish wire with mine.

It's a screw out bit with a fuse inside.

Can I be cheeky and ask where yours is fitted, cant seem to find a good location to try

Good luck, it's getting a bit cold out there in the van....

Ian, all I know is from the Diesel model but they need 12v+, fuel and a balanced flu. The voltage drops below (or near to) 12v and they don't work, the fuel's low and they shut off and the flu's not balanced they stop working.

Have you tried for a voltage across the plug to earth ? Do these fancy Westy's work off relays ? Is there a timer in the circuit ?

IF this was a single pot motorbike I'd take the lead off the plug, take the plug out and try to pump the fuel through ... owt there ? If so replace the plug & lead and try again.

It's got to be simple, it's meant to be that way.

If in doubt I'd talk to Steve MOcki or Mr T'onion .

Ian.
