Awkward, old Westfalia bed!

I have a 1980 full width Westfalia rock n roll bed in my Caravelle.
Its really bulky and awkward to move in and out of position. I can't really say it 'rocks n rolls' anymore?! Its comfortable and I can get it into a bed position but its quite hard to do!
Any tips?

Release catches by pulling the lever in the middle of the back panel (behind). Pull the back panel towards you slightly. Hold the back panel with one hand, so it doesn't return to the closed position. With the other hand, reach down, and pull the seat panel upwards, and then towards you - in one movement if you can. The Seat panel should come towards you, pulling the rear panel behind it. They will then drop into place. It is tricky, but you'll get used to it.
Got to admit, I find it harder to do the reverse - putting it back into a seat.
Don't sell this - they are hard to find, and can be expensive.

Thanks!
It used to be so much easier...but it seems to be harder and harder to do! (maybe its my age, ha!) I know what you mean, its actually more difficult to put into the seat position from bed, than the other way around. As long as Im not missing something crucial, then its okay and Ill just stick with it.
Are they rare now? I paid 150 pounds for it from someone I think on BrickYard - that was 7 years ago! Its really sturdy!

You could try greasing the moving parts - particularly the sliders - but make sure you don't get any on the seat itself.
I had to pay a lot more than that when I bought mine....

You know what? I don't think mine has any springs. Are we talking about the same thing - a proper correct Caravelle folding bed?

A few photos of the hinges would be great to see what is missing/gone bad, but lubricating the contacting metal parts wont hurt.
Especially if it was not done in the past 7 years
