Hi.

Basically I've been hunting for a rhd cold start cable for a 1.6td jx engine. I can only find the lhd one. I have found a company that can lengthen the cable but, I don't know how much to lengthen it by. To save me fitting it and seeing how short it is and then removing it again does anyone know how much longer it will need to be? Thanks I. Advance for any help.

Have you compared published throttle cable lengths? It might give an idea of the difference.
I had to stretch a lhd DG one, it needed about 80mm extension to the rod at the pedal end iirc

If you are just after an inner cable - buy a 20 ft length of piano wire, that's what I did when mine snapped where it had been bent by previous owners. Can't remember diameter offhand. You just need to double the end back on itself and a blob of epoxy resin to retain it in the handle. I think that it was around 19 ft 6" that I used but cannot guarantee memory!! As to length of the outer it must be approx 19 ft 4" ish going from that. No guarantee though. :D

In the past where I've fitted non-stock engines, I've bought bowden cable by the metre and just cut it to suit. Its usually simpler and cheaper. Most cycle/motorbike shops tend to sell it in fixed lengths (ie front and back brakes etc) but a few places still sell by the metre and ebay certainly has some listed. You can fit your own ends:

That stuff is no good - you need solid cable as you have to push as well as pull. It is no good just adding a spring as there is no provision for locking it in position.
