Checklists are all well and good, but it's down to which side of the bed the tester got out of! Take it down, pay your £40 and then you've got 2 weeks (10 working days) to worry about the odd bit of rust and wonky headlights!

Is that actually true though? Gone are the days of dodgy MOT's. Is it still really down to how the mechanic is feeling on the day of whether he passes your Van or leaves with £1000 welding job. I had the welding done last year so Im not expecting any issues there.

My guy is pretty lenient. He still won't let it go out unsafe, but knows that older vehicles arent without their own quirks.

The guy who does my MOT's won't even put it up on the ramps to look at it if you don't want him to [WINKING FACE]

Its not too bad doing your own pre-MOT checks. Mine has passed for last 8 years. When I first bought mine I sought out the toughest tester I could find to iron out any real issues as it was an unknown. Now I just do my own thorough inspection based on the checklist and my tester is really helpful in pinpointing anything he thinks may become an issue in the future that I may have missed. We both end up under the vehicle. I quite look forward to it now.

I think your right, Its worth doing pre-checks it also gave me a better understanding of what to look out for. I adjusted the handbrake and checked the brakes discs. In doing this I found other issues that I wouldn't have found.

I've known him for years he's a good guy have him look at my t25 every time. It's just if I need something MOTing to allow me to move it to work on it save trailering it everywhere.
