JX water pump replacement

Hi Guys,

As the title suggests, I've got a leaky water pump which needs replacing. Anyone got any tips or experiences that I might find helpful? Obviously it's going to involve draining the cooling system, I've never done that either so I'd be glad to hear any advice on that too.

Anything else I should do while I've got the pump off and system drained?

Cheers
Tim :ok

Fairly Straight forward take off the alternator take off three hoses, water everywhere but it wont complementary drain the system. Think there is four 13mm bolts on the top and a 10mm through the cam cover. Bit of a faff to get the pump out if you have PAS but it does come out with the pulley with a bit of wiggling i recommend changing the plastic thermostat cover as they warp and for £4 saves you taking it off again as i did about 3 times. Replacing is just that reversed. There are 2 types of pump and the difference is the size of the middle of the pulley. All back together and refill coolant. Take about an hour and a half first time. Best of luck let me know if i can help anymore. Simon C.

^^^ WHS - I second replacing the plastic cover, mine was warped and wouldn't reseat correctly. The plastic takes on a life of its own once removed and springs into all shapes.
