hi there

just replaced the scrapers on my van as the old ones were perished. however when i took the felt guide channel off this is what i found:

completely rotted away.

i have searched and found that the replacement part for the fixed quarterlight is 251837409. Anyone know what the part is for the opening quarterlight? can i use the fixed one? any ideas where they are sold?

many thanks

ok - with a bit more digging i have found part 251837406A which is the full frame for the opening quarterlight for about £50. however - i think only the vertical bar is rusted - can i buy the fixed one and fit it to the opening frame?

any ideas?

Vw heritage aluminium one.

I guess I can spray it as it won't match the rest of the trim.

ok - i have bought the aftermarket opening frame and have looked up for instructions for how to fit. the entire frame comes as one piece and my guess is that it wont go inside the door and up through the aperture for the glass as it is too big. I also am dubious that it will go down through that aperture as the bottom bolt fitment is at right angles to the frame and will prevent it going through.

anyone replaced a full frame? any hints or tips? Rubber seal on first? in through the top?

any help gratefully recieved as i will attempt to do this in an afternoon and dont want to leave a van on the street without a side window...

cheers

You know you have to remove the door glass don't you?
Seal on frame.Fit from top.IIRC you have to twist the frame slightly to remove and replace.

as Rob says.
get a haynes ... then lift glass out together with scrapers and seals, then little screw at top under door seal then 10 mm head . open the 1/4 and you will get some purchase to help knock it backwards......move it back 6" or so and tilt the top backwards then lift unit up and twist to get bracket on btm of leg out, ,you can use a thumb and finger to pry the skin and frame apart a bit to help.
enjoy

As MM says, spread the door a bit with something like a screwdriver handle turn the frame so the lower fixing bracket will come up through the gap like this.

Hiya mate

Did you manage to refit it back together, I've just ordered the SSP version from vw heritage, any hints / tips would be much appreciated? :)

Cheers
