The auto gearbox on my Mums old peugeot 106 1997 has developed a serious amount of slip in its forward gears but strangely is fine in reverse.
When it developed I also noted a bit cream in the engine oil filler. This led me to beleive the ATF cooler was leaking and had contaminated the coolant. Stupidly I checked the ATF level without the engine running and it showed way over full confirming my thoughts on a leak..
So finally tracked down a replacement cooler and fitted it in about ten minutes. Drained all the old fluid from the box and refilled with fresh.
No better whatsoever and slips like **** with any serious gradient.
I've never realy bothered trying to learn about auto boxs as they generaly seem to be considered beyond any sort of DIY.
Any genius's out there who can give me an easy fix?
The car is otherwise perfect and has done less than 30 000 miles from new.

only ever worked with torqueflites, if you have drive in R then that would rule the convertor out, and other certain areas,
often just needs the bands readjusting, google it or go to the respective pug forum

I've tried a bit of googleing but couldn't find much to speak of.
What are these bands you speak of?
I dont realy have much knowledge/ resources past the torque converter stage.
Every auto box I've had has just sort of worked without interference so I've never delved much.

Coolant ingress can degrade the valve and servo seals inside an auto, means a full replacement job.
Had to do some readng recently on Volvo/Aisin autos...

It looks like I may have got it completely wrong on the coolant leak thing.
As I said I was checking the fluid level without the engine running ( slaps own head).
I had the old fluid sat for a while and nothing seemed to seperate out and it was the right sort quantity.
Just seems odd on such a low mileage vehicle.
If I get a chance I'll pressure test the old cooler.

Had to drive it again as all other vehicles off the road.
It was barely getting getting up the hill to school so I thought give it hell. lots of revs banging between gears up and down kill or cure approach. Did this for a couple of days with it getting no better ( why would I think it would!).
On the third day, went to the shops, got back in, put it in gear.

all better now!!!

Not that I'm counting my chikens or anything.
