Happy New Year!

I set about to remove the starter motor on my van, and found this item (to the left of the starter in the pic) - which is making it impossible to remove the starter! Is there any way to easily get the starter out from around it? What is it?

Thanks in advance

Clutch slave cylinder. It should loosen enough for the starter to be removed with a bit of judicious leverage and a few choice swear words. Not exactly the easiest of removals but it will come out. There is another bolt for the slave further along the gearbox also.

Do I have to undo the bolt down near the gearbox to get it to wiggle? It wasn't showing any signs of budging but maybe I needed to use more force!

Disconnect your battery first then remove the 2 large bolts that are holding in the starter .
I used a large screwdriver to pry the starter out. It's a bit fiddly but take your time
And you,ll get it .

Thanks! Got the starter out after unbolting the clutch slave cylinder and coaxing it back... Starter's back in my possession now after having had a new solenoid fitted, cheers :ok

I like the use of the word 'coaxing'!
