Does anyone use a pump to change oil? I am thinking of trying

Is the tubing sufficiently narrow and flexible to get down the dipstick hole?

(I had a Silverline equivalent, half the price or less, which would not fit down the dipstick hole. I succeeded in carrying out one oil change through the oil filler but could not get it to work a second time, the tubing was crimping. And then a cap cracked anyway so vacuum impossible....)

What's wrong with the drain plug?

I am not physically capable of getting the undertray back on.
It would be very helpful if somebody could help with the question.

There should be a hole in the undertray so you can access the drain plug without removing the tray.

Once I witnessed a professional, albeit unfamiliar with T25s, remove that tray to change the oil. I have never noticed a hole but then I've never given the tray a good look over. I would assume it looks like the photo, and I shall find out in the morning...

Hi I have used a vacuum oil suction pump not on my T25 but on many other vehicles in the past and it works great.Make sure the you get the oil nice and hot before hand so that it flows easily. My pump has a 4 litre capacity which means I have to empty it before I have emptied all the oil. I never feel you get as complete a change as using the sump plug but sometimes its not practical to get underneath. I use it often on my sister's Honda Accord diesel estate and a Mercedes 300D, both these have the oil filter on top of the engine.

Thank you Drillmaster, they do work well when they work and I suspect you had the same type of pump as me which worked first time and I got 4 litres out in about 5 minutes with no mess sticking the tube down the oil filler. But that experience seemed to be a fluke and the crappy tubing is now kinking. So I'd like a higher quality model if I get one which can work through the dipstick hole but that is a horizontal insert with a bend so I'm not sure it is possible.

But the sump should be an equally easy route now I know I don't have to get the undertray off. The hole is there but unexpectedly so is what appears to be a 6mm hex allen key drain plug - I was expecting to find a sump nut looking like this https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/type25- ... er-type-4/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. It will need much more torque than I can apply with my little key so yet again I need to find a new tool.

The 6mm is curious as my searches online can fine no reference to such except on very recent VW engines. I am worried about rounding it off if I get something which allows for bigger torque...

There was definately a hole for the sump plug on mine.....

A hex plug sounds like the gearbox oil drain !!

Well that's the plug under the hole which is less than a foot from the rear of the vehicle. I hope it will spout engine oil if I manage to get it off!

Iirc you dont remove the plug,it just winds out.(well it did on my old jx)

I have the Pela and now 4 years old never had any probs with tubing or anything else.
Never used it for my VW 1.9DG for me, for that, its much easier and quicker just to get underneath.

Those things are really only useful on engines that don't have a drain plug. Using a pump leaves a good proportion of the old oil in the engine. Make the effort to drain it from the sump bung and change the filter whilst you at it.
