Smoking!!

Hi all, took Beryl on her first long range voyage to |somerseyt and back over Christmas with no probs except a blown rear bulb and a knackered indicator relay, so not bad. Had fiddle with the relays to work out which was which (no manual) on turning the key (or may have been turned off) the steering column decided to issue a fair bit of smoke! Suspect something has burnt out, anyone else expeienced anything like this?? Anybody know of any vehicle wiring gurus in E Kent??
