Hello.
I have just bought a t25 which needs a new exhaust.
I have had a look around the web and the systems on offer
all have a transverse silencer. Mine has the silencer mounted
front to back. Is this a standard system does anyone know.

A little tradition here is to pop your van detail inyour signature so we don't have to ask what engine.
Many different origional engines and many different engine changes from donor cars out there.

Well a South African van could be 1998 and have a longitudinal exhaust, but then it wouldn't be a 1.9DG.

89 DG origional exhaust looks like this

The black bit and the bit with the bandage on would be a good place to start to look at what has failed.

Blowing by the nearside joint and the offside joint
is all gungummed up. It's too loud.
I really like the van so thought I would fit a stainless steel system
but the hangers are missing, so I just wanted to make sure I get
the correct one.

I can't speak for the other types out there, but the Speedshop stainless system fits without using the factory support brackets. Mick at NW_VW often has them at a reasonable price. I fitted one recently to replace an early style system and the hardest job was removing the old system. Be warned that removing the studs/bolts often ends in tears - it probably depends when the exhaust was last changed. Plenty of threads on here about how to tackle them.

The vw speedshop looks one looks like mine but on the options
It offers me 2 different bore sizes and a beetle muffler so will phone them on Monday to see if it'll fit.
