What do you guys use to keep your built in water tank clean over winter?

I don't understand the fuss people make about sterilising tanks. I keep water in my tank all year around. Sometimes its chlorinated mains water, but more often than not its bore-hole water from a random camp-site. I've never had any sign of anything growing in the tank. I changed all the pipe-work to Hep2O pipe a few years ago and that stays clean without any treatment required.
If I had to clean the tank I suppose Milton fluid or the tablets from a ration pack would be my weapons of choice.

Yeah that's fair enough, haven't filled mine up for a couple of months now, it's pretty clean but there is some slightly odd residue that has probably been there a while. Also won't be using the water tank for a while so will give Milton fluid a go.

Milton Tablets. Can be found cheap in nearly all supermarkets. In the baby aisle... It's used for sterilising baby bottles, etc.

I double the dosage, fill up the tank and leave overnight. Flush empty tank and fill up once more before emptying one last time ready for use. I've seen (more than a couple) people catch some serious stomach "pooh" by drinking water from old water tanks (that's what they put it down to anyway). Most water tanks in these vans aren't even food/water safe. None of the ones I bought were anyway. Ive had new food safe ones made up for every Van I've ever purchased.

I'm sure I remember some on here saying that Milton leaves a residue in the tank, although I may have completely made that up!
