radio aerial

my van has the aerial in the windscreen and the radio reception has been pants since i've had the van

i have tried different radios and had the factory booster/window box checked and all seems fine so the problem must be in the screen itself but not helped by the fact mine is a karmann and the overcab extends past the windscreen
I have tried one of those stick on the glass aerials and it is slightly better on the front windscreen but if i extend the wires to the overcab window reception is poor, i assume thats down to interference over the longer length of cable

i don't want to cut a hole in the front panel to fit the normal aerial so has anyone fitted an aerial that works anywhere other than the original vw position or is there a better stick on or booster box ?

ps. radio is not DAB

Window aerials are generally very poor.
Normal booster boxes don't work (in the way folk think they should).
An aerial on the A pillar is not ideal, perhaps even less so on a Karmann.

I would fit an amplified "bee sting" type high up on the front of the Karmann top. Tis only 1 hole
You will need a (proper!!) extension cable, but the amp in the base of the aerial will negate any losses there (that is what an amp is for). You could even get such a thing from the breakers, off a vehicle that has a "bee sting" on the rear of the roof, as many do. I got one out of a scrapped Astra. You just need a power and earth feed (easy) and they work VERY well. Getting the long coax feed cable out of the Astra's wiring loom was the longest bit of the whole job

Life is too short for rubbish radio reception.

I've fitted this one to mine and it works well:

Worth a punt at that price.
