Where is best to get another/new 1.9l Water engine for my T25?
I feel when I could get the van in the engine would be repairable. But I also would like it to be ready for the MOT date I have on the 18th of Jan.
Could you point me in the direction of a reconditioned engine or an new one- what sort of prices am I looking at paying?
I could do a swap of the engines but would also like to keep my current engine and repair it- learn from it.
I look forward to your suggestions.
Many thanks,
Ric
PS I have an autobox

I Have looked at a few places VW Hertiage and Just Campers- but are there other places?
I am not looking for people to do my research for me I just want to find out what is a good price to pay for an engine and who else sells them?
I would like the benefit of the experience here- I am new to this and would like to get the van on the road again as soon as possible

Many thanks,
Ric

VAG still do them I think. £1200+VAT exchange if I remember correctly. or buy a runner from one of the members £150 - £500 then rebuild yours. Or just take yours out and rebuild it, if you know what to do.

Cheers SteveW- I would love to be in the position to work on an engine- I won't use the excuse that I haven't done it before, as you always need to start somewhere- but the one that I have nowhere indoors to do it.
I did get a price from VAG that was about what you say. I think that it also comes down to cash flow. I'd love to be able to through 1500 notes at it and a weekend fitting it- but the only part of that equation I have is the weekend.
I am also assuming that if I have a DG engine fitted to my bus with an automatic gearbox that I have the parts needed to transplant an engine?

Also I have the added disadvantage of being in Northern Ireland which added price to me getting a runner from most of the members on here.
If anyone has a useful contact in the frieght world that may a big help.
I'll put a wanted post up any how.

Thanks again for the Info.
Cheers,
Ric

--I can vouch for genuine VW 1.9dg motor inasmuch as I fitted one 5 yrs & 45k miles ago & its still going great--no leaks-no oil use--you hear horror stories about dg motors from other well known reconners-so if you want to keep the van for a few yrs the VAG motor must be yer best bet-but also buget for a new clutch & possibly a new exaust as the old one may not be salvagable when removed--

try retro steve on brickyard for 2nd hand and if you try vw commercial and know someone in the trade you can get a VAG recon engine for £975+vat.

Cheers Hammy44.
I'm in Portstewart.
The last time I asked for anything pre 1980 for a VW in Edwin Mays the phone went dead.
But now I have a name I'll try them on Monday if I get a chance at work.
What do you have? Camper, velle, panel?
Did you fit the engine yerself? I might need some pointers.
Cheers Again,
Ric

hi ric, i have a white 1988 2.1dg karisma high top camper was going to put engine in myself but wife thought it might be quicker and better if a mechanic fitted it. how wrong could she be, its a long story but breefly he had it 3 months and i took it off him not going properly as he was for fitting this and that to cure it. in the end i cured it myself with redex. he had the cheak to charge £900 for his work.where most quote £300-500.but its one of those experiences in life.what have you got.i find it better if you speek face to face with parts people if you have problems i will be going to see johnny someday this week about parts.hope to lpg it this year .regards jim

eyup duck,i had the same problem last summer, but couldnt afford the daft recon prices,so i bought a used 1.9 diesel golf engine from fleabay.£140 delivered, spent £100 on a engine crane and engine stand and swapped the bits over myself, cost roughly £300 at told and learned a crap load on the way,mrs iguana then drove newquay in it three weeks after the transplant,!couldnt have done it without club 80-90 though........best of luck marra!
