New starter battery for Diesel

My old battery has had it I think. Completely flat when left standing for about 8 weeks and then flattened two cars trying to jump it! Stuck it on a C-tek charger and it says it's managed to fully charge it up again, but somehow I don't quite trust the battery. I borrowed a smaller one from a friend and tried that temporarily to check it wasn't a fault with the earth somewhere. Anyways, that holds charge and starts the van up after a week of sitting around (although it only does just cough to life - is that because it's a smaller battery and should be bigger to start the diesel?)
Anyways, what do people recommend for a 1.6 diesel? Would I but just as well to stick one in from eurocarparts, or do you suggest something better?
Cheers

I bought a lion brand one from eurocarparts for my diesel yesterday
72 ampers 3 year gaurantee for 47 quidd.
Mine was dead .....dead. Tried to jump it with my lads astra diesel and no joy.
Took 20 mins ticking over with my landrover before it got enough juice to fire it up. Next day it was flat again.

This is what we see at this time of year. A combination of cold and lack of 'running' is a death nail in any battery especially ones with several years under their belt. Obviously any ageing battery is always going to be more prone to failure but this is a reminder to all of us to regularly charge both starter and leisure batteries at this time of year during the many weeks of none use.
If you are not driving your van at least fortnightly and then for a 30 minute plus duration, it will need some supplementary help in ensuring battery longevity.
A good 12 to 16 hours SMART charge every 4 - 6 weeks should do it. But also be careful not to allow batteries to freeze and never store them directly on cold concrete floors. Newspapers are good for insulation.

Fitted the same yesterday, paid £84.80 from ecp's sister company. I'll generously split the £2.20 with you if we cross in a pub
