the resto of my van is going smoothly. dropped the engine and planned to recon the heads, new rings etc.. took the heads off and all looked good, no cracks etc..then started to take the valves out and bugger! the valve guides on all four intake valves came out with the valves. looks like who ever 'fixed it before' installed small valve guides and tried peening them in. result 2 knacked heads(local machine shop couldnt even drill them and put in oversized guides),great!
has anyone else experienced this, is it common on the 2ltr Aircooled becouse im thinking of risking buying and old siezed engine and using the heads.

if your going to the expense of a rebuild why not get a set of recon or new heads from a remanufacturer? it makes sense in the long run.

You shouldn't assume they won't take it as an exchange though, they're quite used to deciding for themselves and also junking parts that don't turn out to be repairable. Box it and offer it up... :?:
