Went to start up the van and take it for a run, its not move for over a month after having the starter motor replaced. Turns over just about, so me thinks battery needs some juice. Question is, should I just buy a charger or a new battery as I don't know how old the battery is.

Stick it on charge. don't leave it so long not used.

bump start or tow start to get going then give it a good run for an hour to charge. then see how you get on.

Better to trickle charge than bump/jump - the shock of movement and fast charging can destroy a really flat battery. Expect a new one to be needed fairly soon whatever.

Did you have the starter bush changed at the same time as the starter?
I have done two in the last 2 weeks and the difference in starting is like the difference in a flat battery and one that has just come off charge.
Oh and it is much easier to do than people leed you to believe.

stevew,
what/where is this bush you refer to?

I have a 1990 1.6TD syncro with a less than perfect starter. Will it have this bush, please?

thanks

I think you will find that the deisel starter has a bearing at both ends so they do not have the press in bush on the gearbox. I suggest you clean all the earths and the power lines to the starter.
