Hi All, I'm running an '85 petrol DG and and looking for a night heater and Checking around on price and all of them are going to cost a bit.
Looking around on the forum the Propex seems to get the nod.
Anyone out there have any experience of the webasto?, seems to be one of the more expensive heaters yet I read of problems people have had on here.
So can anyone point me in the right direction from the kickoff and save me alot of hassle?.

i like my diesel ebber
cheap to run and very hot and very safe , bit for a pain to refill cos i have my diesel tank in the spare wheel

then again a gas propex on lpg would be cheap to run

Spannerack appears to be getting ebbers at around the 250 mark

My diesel eber rocks - and with the webasto exhuast on it its even quiet now. It is quite battery thirsty though.

Apparently propex are less thirsty on the battery, but gas costs a fortune.

Go for a second hand petrol eber - plumb it straight into the fuel line and you never have to worry about it again.

Be warned, dont get a 24v one like i did initialy (doh). Fortunately i managed to sell it for the same price as i bought it.

£250 aint bad - well worth the money.

diesel eber, just leave it ticking over on low, biggest current draw is on start up but will run for ages on low setting without flattening my 85ah leisure battery

I use propex and it's great....... fits in a little cupboard you can use butane or propane (lpg) available at most campsites. the latest poropexes are Very good

i run mine on marine diesel ( 40ppl ) or red free

i've got a propex 2000 model and it's brilliant! yes they do use some gas, i have a refillable gas bottle that runs the fridge hob and grill aswell as the propex, but only costs a fiver to fill. have had a webasto in the past and it did well for a year. very thirsty on the battery and takes a while to heat up. the propex heats up very quickly, and doesn't have a massive power draw when it stsrts up! also has a fan setting just to circulate cold air!

I'll let you into a secret soruce of cheap ebers... all BT 1 tonne vans and up have em! If you go to a BT MT shop usually where all the vans/lorries are kept (not an exchange) there are usually 1 or 2 vans waiting to be sold on - IF you can find a nice mechanic there - don't try an do it thru a manager they usually wont help! - u can get a diesel one for as little as £20... U can also get a 2 burner stove an dgrill for erm £3.... Try it and see or also ring up the guys who buy the vans n chuck the backs away as they have been known to give em away....

I work for Network Rail and our vans have them I have tried to get one from some vans they sell on, but to no avail (tight gits) I have a b2l petrol eber I am getting rid of from my westy petrol as I'm going AAZ so need a diesel eber going to try the BT one see what happens

PEET Don't know what BT workshop you go to. My eldest Son works in a BT shop and has been trying to get one for his friend for years, to no avail.

I got a diesel Webasto and it it works fine , had a few problems with wiring it and keeping it running , but had it overhauled simply cos of age, but it is hot and doesn't seem to use up the battery too quickly

Or like i say get find one of the numerous firms which jus chuck emaway tho they are wising up a bit now, goddam ebay!!

That looks the Daddy to me - but i bet its expensive! (Wonder what the reserve is ?).

RE gas being cheaper than diesel: Fair enough - but the bottles of camping gaz that fit in my gas cupboard are £15 each - and thats not cheap! I cant get anything else to fit in there!
