Fluid added to fuel tank to clean it?

I was given some fuel tank cleaner and followed the instructions - added it when the tank was as empty as possible, just before topping up with a full tank.

Do these actually work? It might be my imagination, but my van seems lumpy now I've added it or perhaps its just working its magic?
Whilst Im on that subject...when the vans idling it sounds like it could just die every now and then (and has a few times, at junctions)...it sits below the number 1 on the rev counter when idling...

I wouldn't bother it such stuff, personally. Could be now that all the crud in your tank has ended up being burnt in the engine.Use the best quality fuel possible, ethanol free if available, and stick to that. Modern fuels have detergents in them so no need to add more.

Keep your fuel lines fresh by replacing them with the correct type- from bricwerks etc, a new fuel filter, ppe clips and clean the car filter too and that'll be as good as it gets. And take a look at our fuel tank too, if it's in a rusty looking state, change it, they don't last forever.

I don't know about what the idle speed should be, answer is most likely in the wiki :ok

Don't bother with the 'Super' stuff though, it's aimed at performance engines and you'll see little benefit if anything, other than a lighter wallet of course which may help performance a tiny amount ;)

Double face palm!

I am forever being suckered into buying additives and cleaners. Be it STP oil treatment or Stop leak I just can't say no to those glistening cans of promise calling out to me at halfords.

Have yet to find one that does anything

Do you remember those cans of stuff you could add to your oil that supposedly "sealed" worn rings, pistons and liners to stop the engine burning oil ? :?

God knows what they actually did

E D I T = Oh you can still get it = LINK

I have used some of that stuff that helps hydraulic seals - the steering system on my boat was showing signs of the fluid going past the seals and leaking on the hydraulic ram, added this stuff to the oil and it cured it. 8 or 9 years later it is still good. Some of these snake oil things do work!
