I have a new rubber for my windscreen - just wondering how heavy the windscreen is ?
will i be able to lift it out myself with the the aid of 2 suction cup lifters??

They aren't that heavy - but hope the suction lifters work well

got me worried now - i hate lifting glass and my suction lifters were cheap.

i can lift a 35kg bag of cement ok , i take it its lighter than that?

They're not heavy. Its more the issue of damaging it when you set it down. Once you cut around the old seal, its just a case of lifting it out (easy in my opinion). I removed and replaced mine on my own no problem although its useful to have a helper to keep it in place when using the string.

Yes its very light.

The edges can chip very easily. Have something soft to set it down on.

And if it's laminated glass which it mostly shall be, treat it with care.
To allow to flex will likely crack it, particularly if you have any stone chips in it.

You won't. You'll be too nervous first time.

I thought I was prepared for mine. When lifting it out I was thinking to myself "don't break it don't break it". Gently set it on the floor and that was all it took to chip the edge. A bit of old carpet under it would have helped.

If you've got a camper set up with a mattress in the back then lay it in there on some blankets. I transported a new screen about 50 miles in the back of my van like that with no problems. (lay it curve down ie \_/).

It's safer to keep it tucked away inside the van than leaving it laying outside on the ground/balanced on a table etc.!

Whats the name of that spray lubricant you use on the rubber , cant make it out from your video.

Have the windscreen out now and in the back of the van with the new rubber on - just waiting on paint hardening before i put it back in

Hi,

I just used a silicone spray around the channel in the rubber that you put the string in. Worked a treat. I presume that is what Jed was using.

When I replaced my windscreen and other windows, I used automotive glass cleaner. Found it very easy to slide everything into place, including the spreading insert into the side windows. It evaporates cleanly not leaving any traces and certainly not sticky like washing up liquid would be.
