solenoid to starter feed wire replacement?

Hi....thought my solenoid/starter on my 1.7 diesel had given up....startied electrical testing earlier only to find the solenoid - starter motor connection wire has corroded to the point of breaking off the starter motor. There doesn't appear to be any sort of terminal on the starter motor to connect a new wire to.....anyone know if it is possible to fit a new wire here?
Many thanks
Phil

If the spade gas corroded off of the solenoid it is possible to solder directly onto the rivet that held it on. You will need to take the starter off and use a decent soldering iron - a 75w one is what I used. Plenty of flux on a bright rivet. Just terminate the wire in the engine bay and make the loom connection there with an shrouded male spade to mate with the original female. Also you will need to attach the wire to the solenoid firmly with a cable tie to prevent movement and subsequent possible weakening of the new solder joint.
Did mine years ago and it is far better than having the spade connection in all the salt spray from the road.

Thanks, however, the issue is that there is no terminal on the motor itself.....the connection to the solenoid is straightforward as it is a spade terminal held by a nut.....do you think it is possible to solder the heavy duty wire onto the motor?
Thanks

Should answer your question. If you don't have a big soldering iron, Maplins sell a 100 watt one for £15. You can buy braided cable or use something equally robust and solder or crimp on a new eyelet.
